Jackfruit Burger Recipe

                                     I love these spicy burgers, they are so easy and so tasty. This is my post night shift go to meal served with a fresh salad and side of homemade chips, dipped in creamy smashed avo.


I use organic spelt flour to make the rolls but it’s up to you to use what you like. Spelt contains gluten but it is more easily digestible than other flours.



I tin of organic Jack fruit.

1 teaspoon turmeric

I teaspoon cumin

Quarter teaspoon cayenne pepper

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup of water (approx)

1 tablespoon tahini

Half a teaspoon of maple syrup


Place the spices in a frying pan or skillet and heat until they just start to smoke and become fragrant. Turn down the heat and add the jack fruit salt and pepper. Add in the water a little at a time and cook until the jack fruit becomes soft and can be mashed with a fork. At this point the mixture should be moist but not watery.

After shredding the jack fruit in the pan add the tahini and maple syrup to taste. Adjust these 2 ingredients for a sweeter of more tangy savory taste.

Serve with hummus and salad in a spelt roll. Add some homemade air fried chips with rosemary.

And that’s it an easy satisfying yummy midweek meal.
